On or about Monday, January 31st, 2022, around 1:33 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a semi truck claimed the life of a 37-year-old Odessa man. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Route 302 just outside Kermit in Winkler County, Texas.
Officials from the Texas DPS said 37-year-old Alex Soto Martinez Jr. was killed when the truck he was driving allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic in order to avoid a collision, but struck a tractor-trailer in the oncoming lanes. Emergency responders pronounced Martinez Jr. dead of his injuries a short time after the accident. Officials identified the driver of the other tractor-trailer as Moran Camunez Servando, who was unhurt in the collision.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about four miles east of Kermit, which is roughly 158 miles southwest of Lubbock.
Texas DPS assisted local agencies after the accident.
