On or about Tuesday, November 16th, 2021, around 11:05 in the morning, a major accident between a box truck and a pedestrian claimed the life of an 86-year-old man. Deputies from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square, New York.

Officials said 86-year-old Alfred Piretto was killed when he was allegedly struck by a box truck as he was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the street at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike. Emergency responders rushed PIretto to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries several days after his arrival. Police did not mention any other injuries.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is on the southwest side of Long Island, about 23 miles east of Manhattan.

Authorities are still investigating the accident.
