On or about Thursday, December 2nd, 2021, around 5:45 in the morning, a hit-and-run accident between a cyclist and a passenger vehicle left a 37-year-old Ennis man dead. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along the southbound side of Interstate 45 near Alma in Ellis County, Texas.

Law enforcement sources said Alvin Le Roy Short was killed when he was allegedly struck by a passing motorist as he was riding his bike alongside or across the southbound lanes of I-45. Emergency responders pronounced Short dead of his injuries when they arrived at the scene of the accident. The offending vehicle fled the scene after hitting Short, and police are still working to track down the driver.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about a half mile south of Alma, which is about 40 miles south of downtown Dallas.

Officials are still investigating the accident.
