On or about Thursday, July 15th, 2021, around 6:00 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car left a 40-year-old woman from Kountze dead. Troopers from the DPS said the accident occurred on Interstate 10 on the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge in Beaumont, Texas.

Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said 40-year-old Amanda Griffin was killed when her car allegedly struck the back of a tractor-trailer that had stopped with mechanical problems on Interstate 10. Paramedics pronounced Griffin dead from major trauma injuries a short time after the accident. Authorities did not mention any other injuries stemming from the accident.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 10 cuts east and west through Beaumont, with the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge situated a short distance east of downtown.

Police are still examining all the factors that may have contributed to the accident.
