On or about Wednesday, September 15th, 2021, around 5:39 in the morning, an accident between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer left a 52-year-old man dead and sent a 57-year-old man to the hospital. Officials from the ISP said the accident was reported along Highway 122 in Mason City, Iowa.
Representatives from the Iowa State Police said 52-year-old Amar Pinjo was killed and 57-year-old Matt Hoveland was injured when Pinjo’s tractor-trailer allegedly crossed over the center line of Highway 122 and struck Hoveland’s pickup truck. After the initial accident, the tractor-trailer veered off the road and rolled. Pinjo was ejected from the truck in the crash and died of his injuries, while Hoveland was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
According to Google Maps, Highway 122 runs east and west through Mason City, which is about 121 miles north of Des Moines.
Police are still examining the cause of the accident.
