On or about Tuesday, August 10th, 2021, around 10:30 in the morning, a multi-vehicle accident claimed the life of a 27-year-old construction worker and sent another worker to the hospital. Troopers from the DPS said the accident was reported along the southbound side of the Eastex Freeway in Beaumont, Texas.

Department of Public Safety Troopers said 27-year-old Andrew Mendez Lopez was killed when he and another worker were allegedly hit by a vehicle that crashed into a construction zone following a multi-vehicle accident. Lopez and another construction worker were rushed to a nearby hospital where Lopez died of his injuries a short time after his arrival. It is not currently clear if anybody in the cars were hurt in the collision.

According to Google Maps, the Eastex Freeway runs north and south through Beaumont, which is about 84 miles east of downtown Houston.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene of the accident.
