On or about Friday, October 2nd, 2020, 56-year-old Antonio Retana was killed when his Jeep Wrangler was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer while driving on Interstate 35 at or near the city limits of Purcell, Oklahoma.
Troopers from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said that Retana was driving a Jeep wrangler in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near mile marker 91 when he allegedly swerved to avoid a collision. Retana’s Jeep Wrangler was subsequently struck from behind by a tractor-trailer driven by Jaime Weiselogel. Paramedics cut Retana free of the vehicle and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officers did not elaborate on why the truck couldn’t stop. Did the Jeep not leave enough time for the truck to react? Was the truck driver paying attention to the road?
