Details:
On or about Thursday, January 6th, 2022, around 6:49 in the morning, an accident between a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 36-year-old man from Sidney. Law enforcement spokespeople from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported at the intersection of Route 29 and Harris Road in Celina, Ohio.
Authorities from Jefferson Township said 36-year-old Atsushi Tanaka was killed when the Honda passenger vehicle he was driving allegedly collided with a tractor-trailer that may have been backing up after missing a turn, causing the trailer portion to block some or all the lanes of traffic. After the initial collision, Tanaka’s passenger vehicle veered off the side of the roadway and crashed into a pond a short distance off the pavement.
Police identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as 65-year-old Adil Sabanagic, who was unhurt in the accident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident in Celina is about 79 miles north of Dayton.
Officials are still investigating the accident.
