Details

On or about October 2, 2020, a collision occurred on the north side of Abilene, TX, just south of I-20.

While the full details have not been released, it appears that 30-year-old Brandy Chappa and an unidentified man were traveling on the east-west street of Huckleberry. At the same time, a driver (who has not yet been named) was traveling in a city-owned garbage truck on the north-south street of Pine Street.

A quick glance at the intersection on Google Maps reveals that Pine St. is a main thoroughfare and that Huckleberry is a smaller road. Further, there are stop signs in both directions on Huckleberry but none on Pine, at this intersection.

A key question that will need to be answered is whether one of the vehicles ran the stop sign or failed to yield the right of way and why? Is this a simple case of driver inattention, or is it possible that something obstructed the view of the driver of the vehicle traveling on Huckleberry?

It is not known how many city workers were traveling in the garbage truck or whether they were injured.
