On or about Sunday, May 29th, 2022, around 2:30 in the morning, a major accident between a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle left a 43-year-old woman dead. Officials from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along South 15th Street in McAllen, Texas.
Spokespeople from local law enforcement said 43-year-old Brenda Belmontes was killed when she was allegedly hit by a passing vehicle as she was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the lanes of South 15th Street. Emergency responders rushed Belmontes to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a short time after her arrival.
Police have identified the driver of the passenger vehicle as 19-year-old Sorely Lizeth Nino, who was arrested on an unspecified charge after the accident.
Officials are still trying to pin down all the factors that may have contributed to the incident.
