On or about Friday, April 8th, 2022, sometime in the afternoon hours, an accident between a tractor-trailer and an ambulance left one person dead and sent two other people to the hospital. State Police representatives said the accident was reported along Route 87 in Mesa, Arizona.
Authorities from the Arizona State Police said Brendan Bessee was killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly struck the ambulance he was driving while the lights and sirens were active on the way to a call. Emergency responders pronounced Bessee dead a short time after the accident, while another occupant in the ambulance and the driver of the tractor-trailer were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries after the accident.
According to Google Maps, Mesa is about 19 miles east of downtown Phoenix.
Police are still investigating the accident.
