On or about Sunday, November 28th, 2021, around 11:30 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and two pedestrians claimed the lives of two Houston men. Representatives from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Highway 287 just outside Childress in Childress County, Texas.

Texas DPS officials said 25-year-old Carlos Alvarez-Cabrera and 20-year-old Freddy Pineda were killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly drove off the side of Highway 287 and struck them as they were standing nearby a parked vehicle on the shoulder. Emergency responders pronounced Pineda and Alvarez-Cabrera dead of their injuries when emergency responders arrived at the scene. Police have identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as 54-year-old Christopher Tyson, who was unhurt in the incident.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about six miles east of Childress, which is situated roughly 138 miles northeast of Lubbock.

Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.
