On or about Saturday, December 25th, 2021, sometime in the afternoon hours, an accident between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 69-year-old Elmendorf man. Representatives from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along the eastbound Interstate 20 service road in Martin County, Texas.
Police officers said 69-year-old Carlos Fuentes Padilla was killed when the pickup truck he was driving allegedly failed to yield at an intersection on I-20 when it collided with a tractor-trailer driven by Olanrewaju Oyewo. Paramedics pronounced Padilla dead of his injuries a short time after the accident. Oyewo did not report injuries following the accident.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 20 cuts east and west through the southern corner of Martin County, which is a short distance northeast of Midland.
Officials are still investigating the accident.
