On or about Sunday, September 19th, 2021, around 12:32 in the morning, an accident between a heavy-duty truck, a car, and a pickup left a 49-year-old man dead and injured four other people. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported in the 4500 block of Highway 385 in Odessa, Texas.
Authorities said 49-year-old Charles Mello was killed when his pickup truck allegedly collided with a heavy-duty truck and a car while traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 385. Paramedics pronounced Mello dead of his injuries a short time after the collision, while two people in the heavy-duty truck and two people in the car were treated for injuries of an unspecified nature or severity stemming from the accident.
According to Google Maps, Highway 385 runs north and south through Odessa, which is about 138 miles south of downtown Lubbock.
State and local law enforcement are investigating the accident.
