On or about Friday, September 17th, 2021, around 7:45 in the morning, an accident between a garbage truck and a car left an 11-year-old boy dead and sent two other people to the hospital. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along the eastbound Interstate 30 service road in Hopkins County, Texas.

Texas DPS officials said an as-of-yet unidentified 11-year-old boy was killed, while another child and 34-year-old Angeles Vicente-Hernandez was injured when the car they were in allegedly struck the back of a garbage truck on the I-30 service road. One child died at the scene, while Vicente-Hernandez and another child were taken to the hospital with serious injuries stemming from the collision.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 30 runs east and west through Hopkins County, with the scene of the accident about six miles west of Sulphur Springs.

Texas DPS and local police are investigating the accident.
