Details:
On or about Saturday, January 22nd, 2022, around 10:20 in the morning, an accident between a van and a tractor-trailer left a 10-year-old child dead and sent four other individuals to the hospital. Law enforcement representatives said the accident was reported along Highway 421 just outside Wanatah in La Porte County, Indiana.
Deputies from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office said one as-of-yet unidentified 10-year-old child was killed, while 30-year-old Christopher Lawson and three other passengers were injured when the van they were in was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer when the van had slowed or stopped for construction traffic on Highway 421. Officials pronounced the 10-year-old child dead a short time after the collision, while Lawson and the three other occupants were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a mile south of Wanatah, which is roughly 131 miles north of downtown Indianapolis.
Police are still trying to pin down the cause of the accident.
