On or about Tuesday, October 27th, 2020, around 5:40 in the evening, an accident between an 18-wheeler and a Honda Pilot claimed the life of a 4-year-old child and sent two drivers to the hospital. Authorities said the accident took place at the intersection of Highway 1 and North May Street just outside Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Officers said that a child was killed and two people were hurt when a tractor-trailer allegedly struck the side of a Honda Pilot under unknown conditions. Paramedics cut the child from the wreckage and airlifted them to FirstHealth Moore Regional where they died a short time later. The driver of the tractor-trailer and the Honda were also taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. The driver of the Honda was last reported in serious condition.
Google Maps shows Highway 1 is four lanes with a wide, grassy median that runs north and south, while North May Street is two lanes. North May Street has a stop sign at the intersection. Southern Pines is about 40 miles west of Fayetteville.
