On or about Wednesday, December 8th, 2021, around 11:00 in the morning, an accident between a passenger vehicle and a broken down tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 20-year-old Richmond woman. Troopers from the VSP said the accident was reported along the westbound side of Interstate 64 in New Kent County, Virginia.

Spokespeople from the Virginia State Police said 20-year-old Clarissa Simmons was killed when the Buick Encore she was driving allegedly struck a disabled tractor-trailer on the westbound shoulder of I-64. Emergency responders pronounced Simmons dead of her injuries at the scene of the accident. The driver of the tractor-trailer, as well as a roadside technician working on the tractor-trailer were uninjured in the accident.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 64 cuts east and west through the center of New Kent County, which is situated about 36 miles east of downtown Richmond.

State and local authorities assisted after the accident.
