On or about Sunday, March 20th, 2022, around 1:40 in the morning, an accident between a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer left a 41-year-old man dead. Investigators from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along U.S. Highway 287 just outside Claude in Armstrong County, Texas.
Troopers from the Texas DPS said 41-year-old Coy Crowder was killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly failed to yield while pulling onto Highway 287 from a rest area and struck his vehicle. Paramedics pronounced Crowder dead of his injuries a short time after the accident. Officials did not mention any other vehicles in their initial statement on the incident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance from Claude, which is roughly 29 miles southeast of Amarillo.
Officials are still investigating the accident.
