Details:

On or about Wednesday, November 4th, 2020, around 2:15 in the afternoon, an accident with a school bus claimed the life of a 54-year-old cyclist. Police said the accident happened along Greenkill Avenue at Wilbur Avenue in Kingston, New York.

Officers said an as-of-yet unidentified 54-year-old man was killed when he was allegedly hit by a school bus owned and operated by Birnie Bus Company driven by a 43-year-old woman. Investigators said the cyclist allegedly ran a stop sign meant for the bike lane before he was hit by the turning bus. The man fell from the bike and was subsequently run over by the bus.

Paramedics rushed the victim to nearby Health Alliance Broadway where he died of his injuries.

Looking at the intersection of Greenkill and Wilbur on Google Streetview doesn’t appear to show a bike lane or a stop sign for one, but the images are possibly outdated. Kingston is situated about 100 miles north of New York City.

Authorities are still investigating.
