On or about Tuesday, December 1st, 2020, around 4:50 in the morning, an accident between an 18-wheeler and a car claimed the life of a 58-year-old man from Williamsburg. Police said the accident happened in the northbound lanes of I-75 near milepost 28 in Laurel County, Kentucky.
Investigators said 58-year-old Dale Shoopman was killed when his car was allegedly hit by an 18-wheeler that lost control in the northbound lanes. Paramedics pronounced Shoopman dead of his injuries a short time after they arrived at the scene.
Authorities identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as 54-year-old Valentin Meica, who was reportedly uninjured in the crash.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 75 is six lanes, with a concrete barrier dividing north and southbound traffic. Laurel County is situated about 158 miles southeast of Louisville.
Authorities are still investigating.
