In the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 27, 2024, two semi-trucks travelling opposite directions on Highway 87 and Allentown Road collided. The 36-year-old man from Dallas was declared dead at the scene, and the 62-year-old Sumter, SC driver was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. Reports indicate the Dallas man was driving southbound and drifted into the northbound lane, where he then collided with the Sumter, SC man, who was travelling north. Roads were closed for an extended period of time while the area was cleared.
