Details:
On or about Monday, March 8th, 2021, around 1:00 in the afternoon, an accident between an Iowa Department of Transportation truck and an 18-wheeler left one individual dead. Troopers from the State Patrol said the accident happened along the westbound side of Interstate 80 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Investigators said 51-year-old Daniel Owen was killed when a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer collided under unspecified circumstances in the westbound lanes. At least one of the vehicles burst into flames following the initial collision. Emergency responders pronounced Owen dead of his injuries at the scene of the accident. Paramedics transported the driver of the IDOT truck to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Officials closed all the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 in order to tend to the scene of the crash.
State and local law enforcement agencies are investigating.
