According to preliminary data from the Texas Department of Transporation (TxDoT), 2,432 people died or sustained injuries in commercial vehicle crashes in April 2020. Of that number, 160 people lost their lives.
In addition to the people that lost their lives, 262 people incurred serious injuries in crashes involving 18-wheelers. A further 777 sustained injuries that required hospitalization, while 1168 had minor injuries that did not require hospitalization. According to TxDoT, 65 people had injuries that could not be classified.
Commercial vehicle accident deaths rose 9.1% from the previous month. Overall, injury and fatalities dropped 9.6% from March 2021 totals.
All numbers are preliminary. TxDoT’s final numbers are not expected to be released until the late 2022.
