On or about Tuesday, January 4th, 2022, sometime in the early morning hours, a hit-and-run accident between a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle left a 61-year-old man dead. Officers from the FWPD said the accident was reported along East Loop 820 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Deputies from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department said 61-year-old Derick Wheeler was injured when he was allegedly hit by a vehicle as he was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the lanes of East Loop 820. After the initial accident, the offending vehicle fled the scene. Paramedics pronounced Wheeler dead of his injuries a short time after the accident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is on the east side of Fort Worth.
Police are still working to find the vehicle and driver that fled the scene.
