On or about Monday, February 1st, 2021, around 6:25 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car claimed the life of a 79-year-old man. Troopers from the DPS said the accident was reported at the intersection of Highway 82 and Highway 6 in Benjamin, Texas.
Deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said 79-year-old Donnie Edward Ryder was killed when his car was allegedly struck by an 18-wheeler while he was driving on Highway 6. Police identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as Derek T. Williams, who was westbound on Highway 82 at the time of the accident. Paramedics rushed Ryder to the hospital where he died of his injuries a short time after his arrival.
Benjamin is located about 125 miles east of Lubbock, according to Google Maps.
Texas Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement are investigating the accident.
