On or about Wednesday, October 14th, 2020, around 1:20 in the afternoon, a major accident between a car and a tractor-trailer sent a man and a woman to the hospital. The accident took place in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 approaching the Lamine River Bridge in Cooper County, Missouri.

State Troopers said that 72-year-old Kathy Proffitt and 72-year-old Douglas Proffitt were injured when the Nissan Altima they were in was hit by a tractor-trailer that allegedly suffered some kind of mechanical failure. The initial impact pushed the Proffitt’s car into a nearby barrier before it rolled.

Cooper County EMS transported Kathy and Douglas to nearby University Hospital to be treated for moderate injuries. The truck driver was reportedly unhurt.

Reviewing the scene of the accident on Google Streetview shows that Interstate 70 runs east and west through Cooper County, which is located about 107 miles east of Kansas City.

Authorities hope to release more details about what happened at a later date.
