On or about Saturday, January 1st, 2022, around 3:00 in the morning, a head-on accident between a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck claimed the life of a 30-year-old Longview man. Representatives from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Highway 49 just outside Jefferson in Marion County, Texas.

Spokespeople from the Texas DPS said 30-year-old Dustin Coston was killed when the Ford Ranger pickup truck he was driving allegedly crossed over the center line of the roadway and struck a tractor-trailer in the opposite lanes on Highway 49. Emergency responders pronounced Coston dead of his injuries a short time after they responded to the scene of the collision. A passenger in the tractor-trailer was identified as 37-year-old Ann Rahe, who was taken to a nearby hospital with incapacitating injuries stemming from the accident.

Authorities identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as 51-year-old Phillip Couch, who was unhurt in the crash.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about 10 miles northwest of Jefferson, which is situated about 166 miles east of downtown Dallas.

Police are still investigating the factors that may have contributed to the accident.
