On or about Saturday, January 1st, 2022, around 1:30 in the morning, a major single-vehicle car accident claimed the life of an 18-year-old from Deweyville. Representatives from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Old Highway 87 in Orange County, Texas.
Authorities from the Texas DPS said 18-year-old Dylan Elmore was killed when the pickup truck he was driving allegedly veered off the side of Old Highway 87 and slammed into a tree a short distance off the pavement. Paramedics pronounced Elmore dead of his injuries when they arrived at the scene of the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their initial statement on the incident.
According to Google Maps, Old Highway 87 winds north and south through Orange County, which is about 103 miles east of downtown Houston.
Investigators are still examining all the factors that may have contributed to the accident.
