On or about Wednesday, January 26th, 2022, around 9:36 in the morning, an accident between a box truck and a pedestrian left a 68-year-old man dead. Local law enforcement representatives said the accident was reported at the intersection of East Main Street and North Elm Street in Waterbury, Connecticut.

Investigators said 68-year-old Earl Smith was killed when he was allegedly struck by a box truck while he was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the street at East Main Street at North Elm Street. Emergency responders rushed Smith to St. Mary’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time after his arrival. Officials did not mention any other vehicles in their statement on the accident.

According to Google Maps, the intersection of East Main Street at North Elm Street is on the southeast side of Waterbury.

Police are still looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
