On or about Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022, around 5:00 in the morning, a major accident between a box truck and a train left two men dead. Troopers from the ASP said the accident was reported along a length of train tracks near Interstate 65 in Limestone County, Alabama.

Spokespeople from the Alabama State Police said 54-year-old Edgardo Pacheco and an as-of-yet unidentified 18-year-old were killed when the box truck they were in allegedly drove off the side of Interstate 65 and came to rest on nearby train tracks before the box truck was hit by a train. Emergency responders pronounced Pacheco and an 18-year old in the box truck dead of their injuries after the accident.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance from Elkmont.

Police are still working to determine what happened in the accident.
