On or about Monday, February 21st, 2022, around 5:30 in the morning, an accident between a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle left a 52-year-old man dead. Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported along Highway 96 just outside Jasper, Texas.

Investigators said 52-year-old Edward Campbell was killed when he was allegedly struck by an SUV as he may have walked out of a driveway and into the roadway on Highway 96 North. Emergency responders pronounced Campbell dead of his injuries at the scene of the accident. Officials did not mention any other vehicles in their statement on the accident.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance from Jasper, which is about 134 miles northeast of downtown Houston.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.
