Details:
On or about Thursday, October 1st, 2020, an accident between an SUV and a commercial truck left two people dead and sent two others to the hospital. Texas DPS said the accident happened on Slaton Highway between FM 1585 and CR 7600 in Lubbock, Texas.
Authorities said that Eliova Arispe and Juan Soliz Garcia were killed when a commercial truck allegedly swerved to avoid a truck in a construction zone when it struck an SUV driven by Berta Arispe. Eliova and Garcia were passengers in the SUV, and died a short time after the collision. Berta Arispe and another passenger in the SUV, identified as Madison Karner, were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Officials identified the driver of the commercial truck as Thomas Erskine Jr, who did not report injuries.
Slaton Highway is four lanes with a grassy median dividing north and southbound traffic. The area where the accident took place about 16 miles southeast of downtown Lubbock.
Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers assisted with the accident investigation.
