On or about Tuesday, December 7th, 2021, around 11:00 in the morning, an accident between a passenger vehicle and a box truck claimed the life of a Belfast woman and sent a Buxton man to the hospital. Troopers from the MSP said the accident was reported along Route 1 in Damariscotta, Maine.

Representatives from the Maine State Police said 25-year-old Emilee Mullin was killed when the car she was driving and a box truck collided under unspecified circumstances while driving down Route 1. Paramedics pronounced Mullin dead of her injuries at the scene of the collision. Officials identified the driver of the box truck as 37-year-old Derick Lavinge, who was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries stemming from the crash.

According to Google Maps, Route 1 cuts through the northwest corner of Damariscotta, which is about 52 miles northeast of Portland.

Authorities are still investigating the accident.
