Details:
On or about Thursday, December 3rd, 2020, around 12:30 in the morning, an accident between a car and a disabled 18-wheeler claimed the life of a 45-year-old California woman. Texas DPS said the accident happened on the eastbound side of Interstate 40 near Amarillo, Texas.
Investigators said 45-year-old Erica James was killed when her car allegedly struck the back of a disabled 18-wheeler. The tractor-trailer had pulled to the side, but was apparently partially still in the lane of traffic. Paramedics pronounced James dead of her injuries a short time after the accident.
Officials said the road conditions were slick and icy at the time of the crash.
Google Maps shows Interstate 40 is four lanes in the area, with a grassy median dividing east and westbound traffic. The scene of the crash is situated about five miles east of Amarillo.
Texas Department of Public Safety is assisting in the accident investigation.
