On or about Monday, March 15th, 2021, an accident between an SUV and a tractor-trailer sent a 65-year-old Falfurrias woman to the hospital. Troopers from the DPS said the accident happened in the 1000 block of Flournoy Road in Alice, Texas.
Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Department said 65-year-old Fermina Mangiyo was rushed to the hospital after an 18-wheeler allegedly struck her SUV while attempting a wide right turn into a private driveway. Paramedics rushed Mangiyo to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries. Police identified the tractor-trailer driver as Corie Smith, who was uninjured in the accident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is on the northwest side of Alice, which is about 44 miles west of Corpus Christi.
Deputies from the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office assisted Texas DPS Troopers at the scene of the accident.
