On or about Wednesday, March 9th, 2022, sometime in the hours after dark, a major accident with an alleged DWI tractor-trailer driver sent a firefighter to the hospital. Authorities from the LSP said the accident was reported along Interstate 10 in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Troopers from the Louisiana State Police said one as-of-yet unidentified firefighter was injured when a tractor-trailer allegedly drove off the side of Interstate 10 and crashed into a fire engine on the side of the roadway. The firefighter allegedly dove off the overpass in order to avoid the tractor-trailer. Paramedics transported the firefighter to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries after the accident.
Authorities identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as 51-year-old Nathan A. Martin, who currently faces charges of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, open alcohol container, OWI first-offense, and vehicular negligent injuring in connection with the accident.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 10 cuts east and west through Lafayette.
Authorities are still investigating the accident.
