On or about Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021, a box truck accident with a pedestrian bridge sent five people to the hospital. Officials from the DCPD said the accident was reported on Interstate 295 near the exchange with Polk Street in Washington, D.C.

Authorities from the Metro Police said five as-of-yet unidentified people were injured when a dump truck allegedly struck a pedestrian bridge spanning Route 295. After the initial impact, the pedestrian bridge collapsed onto several other vehicles on the roadway. Paramedics transported five people from the scene to area hospitals with unspecified injuries stemming from the accident.

According to Google Maps, the intersection of Route 295 and Polk Street is situated on the east side of Washington, D.C.

Multiple agencies are investigating the accident.
