On or about Monday, November 22nc, 2021, around 11:00 in the morning, an accident between a transport van and a tractor-trailer claimed the lives of five people and sent three others to the hospital. Troopers from the OSHP said the accident was reported along State Road 44 near the intersection with Pekin Road in Newbury Township, Ohio.

Officials from the Geauga County Sheriff’s Department said five as-of-yet unidentified people were killed and three others were injured when a Ford Econoline transport van from the Cuyahoga County Board of Disabilities allegedly crossed over the center line of SR 44 and collided with a tractor-trailer head-on. Emergency responders pronounced the driver of he transport van, and four of the passengers in the van, dead of their injuries at the scene. Paramedics transported two other passengers from the transport van and the driver of the tractor-trailer to a nearby hospital with injuries of an unspecified nature or severity.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about 32 miles southeast of downtown Cleveland.

Police are still investigating the accident.
