On or about Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022, around 9:38 in the morning, an accident between several tractor-trailers, commercial vehicles, and three passenger vehicles left one man dead and sent several others to the hospital. Law enforcement spokespeople from the NMHP said the accident was reported along Interstate 40 just outside Santa Rosa in Guadalupe County, New Mexico.

Authorities from the New Mexico State Police said 35-year-old Florin Lorache was killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly struck the back of another 18-wheeler, resulting in a chain-reaction collision with eleven other commercial vehicles and three passenger vehicles. Lorache was an occupant in a van with five other people and died a short time after the accident. All the other occupants were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance from Santa Rosa, which is 118 miles east of downtown Albuquerque.

Officials are still investigating the accident.
