On or about Wednesday, June 9th, 2021, around 10:00 at night, an accident between a tanker truck and seven other vehicles left four people dead and sent nine others to the hospital. Authorities from the ASP said the accident happened along Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway at 52nd Street in Phoenix, Arizona.

Investigators said four as-of-yet unidentified people were killed, while nine others were taken to the hospital when a tanker truck allegedly struck seven other vehicles that had either slowed or stopped in traffic. After the initial collision, the tanker truck broke free of the truck and crashed across the center line of the roadway. Four people were pronounced dead of their injuries at the scene of the accident. Emergency responders transported nine people, including at least one child to the hospital with unknown injuries after the accident.

According to Google Maps, the intersection of Loop 202 and 52nd Street is located on the east side of Phoenix, a short distance from downtown.

State and local law enforcement agencies are investigating the accident, and hope to release more information as soon as it becomes available.
