On or about Sunday, April 9th, 2022, around 9:00 in the morning, an accident between a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian left a 60-year-old man dead and sent another person to the hospital. Officers from the LPD said the accident was reported at the intersection of 58th Street and University Avenue in Lubbock, Texas.

Law enforcement representatives from the area said 60-year-old Gary Boaz was killed when he was allegedly hit by an SUV as he was walking along the median at the intersection of University Avenue and 58th Street. Police identified the driver of the SUV as 42-year-old Esdras Amaya, who was rushed to the hospital along with Boaz, where Boaz succumbed to his injuries a short time after the accident.

According to Google Maps, the intersection of 58th Street and University Avenue is on the south side of Lubbock.

Officials are still looking into the cause of the accident.
