On or about Friday, October 30th, 2020, around 5:45 in the evening, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a disabled go-kart claimed the life of a 51-year-old man from Peoria. Troopers said the accident happened on Route 26 in Spring Bay Township, Illinois.
Investigators said 51-year-old Gary Johnson was killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly slammed into a disabled go-kart near the intersection with Eichhorn Road. Paramedics pronounced Johnson dead of his injuries at the scene a few hours after the crash. No other injuries were mentioned by police.
Looking at the scene of the crash on Google Maps shows Highway 26 is two lanes that run north and south. Spring Bay Township is located about nine miles north of Peoria.
Police hope to release the findings of their investigation as soon as they become available.
