On or about Friday, April 23rd, 2021, around 3:00 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer, a car, and a minivan left one man dead and sent two people to the hospital. Officials from Berkshire County said the accident was reported on the eastbound side of the Massachusetts Turnpike in Becket, Massachusetts.

State Police said 69-year-old Gary Litwin was killed, and two other people were injured when a tractor-trailer allegedly rear-ended Litwin’s Toyota Camry, pushing the Camry into a nearby Toyota Sienna minivan. Emergency responders rushed Litwin, his passenger, and the driver of the Sienna to a nearby hospital where Litwin died of his injuries a short time after his arrival.

Authorities said they anticipate charges for the driver of the tractor-trailer in connection with the accident.

The Massachusetts Turnpike runs east and west through the southern edge of Becket, which is about 40 miles northwest of Springfield, according to Google Maps.

Police are still examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.
