Details:
On or about Thursday, January 21st, 2021, around 5:00 in the morning, an accident between an SUV and an 18-wheeler left one man dead. Troopers from the NMSP said the accident happened on State Road 18 just outside Hobbs in Lea County, New Mexico.
La enforcement spokespeople said Gary Marshall was killed when his SUV allegedly attempted to pass a tractor-trailer that was making a turn when the two collided. Marshall was thrown from the vehicle and died of his injuries a short time after he was taken to the hospital. Police did not mention any other injuries.
State Road 18 runs north and south through Hobbs, which is about 109 miles southwest of Lubbock.
New Mexico State Police are assisting in the accident investigation.
