On or about Wednesday, November 10th, 2021, around 7:00 in the morning, an accident between a box truck and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 32-year-old Perth Amboy man and sent two other people to the hospital. Local police spokespeople said the accident was reported along the northbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Investigators said 32-year-old Geraldo J. Velez-Portes was killed when the box truck he was riding in allegedly slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer in the northbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike. Paramedics pronounced Velez-Portes dead after the accident, while the driver of the box truck and the driver of the tractor-trailer were treated for unspecified injuries stemming from the crash.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about 6 miles south of downtown Newark.
Authorities are still investigating the collision.
