On or about Tuesday, February 9th, 2021, around 5:30 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and several vehicles left a 9-year-old girl dead. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident happened along Highway 302 near Kermit, Texas.
Authorities from the area said 9-year-old Hazel Thompson was killed when an 18-wheeler allegedly struck several other vehicles in the lanes of Highway 302. Thompson was pronounced dead of her injuries after the crash, while two other people were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries stemming from the accident.
Google Maps shows Highway 302 cuts through the southern edge of Kermit, which is about 258 miles east of El Paso.
Officials are still looking into the cause of the accident.
