On or about Thursday, November 4th, 2021, around 11:00 at night, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a tow truck claimed the life of a 63-year-old man. Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported along the southbound side of Interstate 5 in Roseburg, Oregon.

Troopers from the Oregon State Police said 63-year-old Henry Alan Lichtwald was killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly veered out of the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 and collided with Lichtwald and his tow truck that were tending to the scene of a previous incident. Emergency responders pronounced Lichtwald dead of his injuries a short time after they responded to the scene.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 5 runs north and south through Roseburg, which is about 177 miles south of downtown Portland.

State and local law enforcement agencies assisted at the scene of the accident.
