Details:
On or about Monday, January 3rd, 2022, around 2:15 in the morning, an accident between a box truck and a passenger vehicle claimed the life of an 18-year-old woman. Authorities from the Hays County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported on the northbound side of Interstate 35 near the intersection with Wonder World Drive in San Marcos, Texas.
Officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety said 18-year-old Iliana Velez was killed when the car she was in was allegedly hit by a box truck where the ramp and the northbound lanes of I-35 connect. After the initial collision, the box truck fled the scene of the accident. Emergency responders pronounced Velez dead of her injuries a short time after they responded to the scene of the accident.
Police described the box truck as having a yellow cab.
According to Google Maps, San Marcos is situated about 49 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio.
Officials are still working to track down the box truck and driver.
