On or about Wednesday, September 15th, 2021, around 2:30 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian left a 34-year-old man dead. Authorities from the MSP said the accident was reported along the eastbound side of Highway 12 just outside Cokato in Wright County, Minnesota.

Officials said 34-year-old Jacob Merges was killed when he was allegedly hit by an eastbound tractor-trailer as he was walking along or trying to cross the eastbound lanes of Highway 12. Emergency responders pronounced Merges dead of his injuries a short time after the accident. Police did not mention any other injuries in their initial report on the incident.

According to Google Maps, Highway 12 runs east and west through Wright County, with the scene of the accident located about 51 miles west of downtown Minneapolis.

Police are still investigating.
